About Cheval des Andes 2015 Bordeaux Blend, Lujan De Cuyo

A joint venture between Chateau Cheval Blanc and Terrazas De Los Andes, this wine is a groundbreaking blend of legendary Bordeaux "First Growth" winemaking expertise with the very best terroir in Argentina. Cheval des Andes originated as Director Pierre Lurton sought out a special international terroir in which to apply the storied blending heritage of the French château. Lurton was intrigued by the notion of unearthing a connection with the Saint Émilion past: Malbec, decimated by phylloxera in the 1860s from its position as the one of the most important varieties in Saint Emilion and Pomerol, had since been reincarnated in ungrafted form in Argentina, producing some of the world's best Malbecs in recent years.

This 2015 received widespread praise including 96 points from Tim Atkin MW who said "“Saved by the rains,” is how Lorenzo Pasquini describes the 2015 vintage of Cheval, as they delayed ripening in the grapes. It’s certainly a very elegant, refined red, blending Malbec with 28% Cabernet Sauvignon (there was no Cabernet Franc or Petit Verdot this year). Lighter in texture than the 2014, but with similar granular tannins, this is a fresh, focused wine of high quality with minerality, stylish oak and considerable length. 2021-30"

and James Suckling scored it 98 points saying "Very perfumed aromas of crushed berries such as raspberries and lemon rind. Plenty of flowers and sandalwood, too. Full body, very fine tannins and focus with a lovely, ethereal sensibility, which gives it balance and freshness. I love the energy and precision. It's all about subtlety. Despite the slightly difficult weather, this is a masterpiece in harmony. Drink in 2020 and onwards."  Limited!!
