About Sophenia 2015 Malbec, Synthesis, Mendoza
Finca Sophenia was planted in 1997 with over 300 acres of vines on the the slopes of the Andes mountains in the famous Tupungato district of Mendoza. At an elevation of 4000 feet the terroir benefits from the cooler climate, abundant sun, and sharp contrast between day and night temperature, delivering the highest quality fruit. The Synthesis line represents the best wines produced at this estate. This Synthesis Malbec is 100% Malbec, hand picked from select parcels. The grapes are then hand sorted at the winery to insure only the healthiest fruit goes in. A 10 day cold maceration is followed by fermentation with select yeasts at controlled temperatures over 14 days with additional post-fermentation maceration of 20 days. The wine is then aged in new French oak barrels for 12 months. This 2015 was a Platinum Medal winner with a score of 97 points in the Decanter World Wine Awards! They said "Malbec at its most elegant! Deep, brooding, earthy notes mingled with wild mountain herbs, grass and juicy, intense, spicy dark cherries. Incredibly pure with perfect oak and a very long, fresh finish."
